Notable Day

Okay, so it's a history making day. Not because of anything eventful in my personal life, but because it is 6-6-6. I won't see 3006 so was rather inclined to make a notable mention and have this blog have some kind of notation for today.

It makes me wonder what people were doing in 1906. If they made much of a big deal of if they even thought twice about it. Or even 1806. Surely people who knew even one iota of the bible would find the numbers to be of interest.

There really isn't much to report as to my personal life, except that hopefully by the end of July some life altering things will be taking place. I'll update soon.

For a few fun facts, here is some Today In History.

1703: Work begins on the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia, meant by Tsar Peter I (the Great) to be a “window on Europe.”

1884: The group of Republican Party dissidents known as the Mugwumps leaves the party convention, refusing to support its nominee for president, James G. Blaine.

1925: Under Walter P. Chrysler, a former General Motors executive, the Maxwell Motor Corporation becomes the Chrysler Corporation.

1944: In the largest seaborne invasion in history, known as D-Day, over 120,000 Allied troops land on the beaches of Normandy in German-occupied northern France.

1978: California voters overwhelmingly approve Proposition 13, which cuts local property taxes by more than two-thirds, sending many local governments into financial crisis.

1984: The Indian army attacks the sacred Golden Temple in Amritsar, killing hundreds of Sikh separatists headquartered there. Four months later, outraged Sikhs assassinate Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Fun Fact:

I was born on this day in 1956. I won five consecutive Wimbledon tennis titles. Who am I?

I am : Björn Borg, born in 1956, Swedish professional tennis player, who won 11 grand slam tournaments and held the men's number one ranking. Noted for his coolness under pressure, he took the Wimbledon title for five consecutive years (1976-80) and won the French Open six times (1974, 1975, 1978-81) but was less successful at the United States Open, where he lost in the finals six times. He was elected to the Tennis Hall of Fame in 1990.

Born in Sodertalje, a suburb of Stockholm, Borg started playing tennis at age nine and soon developed his trademark two-handed backhand. He left school at age 14 and within a year was the world's top-ranked junior player. Borg won his first major title, the Italian Open, in June 1974. That same month he won the French Open, his first grand slam tournament. In 1975 he led Sweden to its first Davis Cup victory (against the former Czechoslovakia), and by then he had become a national hero in Sweden.

Borg dominated men's professional tennis in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He won a total of 62 singles tournaments before retiring in 1983. He then became involved in a variety of business enterprises that ultimately failed. He tried to return to competitive tennis in the early 1990s but could not reach his former level of play. In 1993 he joined the senior circuit, tournaments for players over 35.
